I think the biggest tragedy of our modern age is that the boomer class has basically made living the way you want illegal.
What would the founding fathers think about the idea that you could buy property; and be forbidden from farming it? From living on it?
Even mechanisms for crony capitalism; such as company owned bunkhouses are illegal. Tenant houses are illegal. Hostels are illegal.
The song 'It's fun to stay at the YMCA' rang true. As a young guy you could move to any city, stay the ymca, and find a job while being surrounded by your peers. Now? Hand over 2/3rds of your income to live as roomates with strangers.
Pic related: it's illegal in 99% of counties in the usa. In places it is legal it can only be an accessory building to a real house.
Dude that song was about sucking dicks in the shower there.
Camden Turner
and now op can't do that why are you surprised?
Wyatt Rogers

I hate to tell you but molesters infiltrated those groups long ago. Also the girl scouts only exist as a cookie sales distributer.

>What would the founding fathers think about the idea that you could buy property; and be forbidden from farming it? From living on it? What happens if you just, dare I suggest, hypothetically, you do it anyway?
Noah Rivera
Because men like you stayed home.
Jeremiah Clark
They literally will seize your land and take everything you built.
Leo Kelly
It's in the woods or the desert, the only other people here are like minded, few people know you even exist, now what?
Kayden Cook
don't be dumb user, counties have all sorts of options for scouting tax dodging structures.
you really think they can't afford to pay some empowered woman to look over sat/aerial images of tax lots for 45k a year to find un-permitted structures? >they can, and do.
Lincoln Richardson
So just use a tarp and pay your taxes, what's the problem?
David Ross
I was actually at work.
Charles Murphy
you are aware pigs don't know shit about building codes. All they would see is a trailer. What would screw you over is when a sneaky merchant demands police to confiscate it for your safety and also you stay in a 4k a month pod.
John Anderson
>Now? Hand over 2/3rds of your income to live as roomates with strangers. don't forget you have to sign a contract agreeing to be with those strangers for A YEAR
Ryan Thompson
That doesn't interfere with hunting for employment tho
Nathan Price
to follow up, i'd be amazed if there isn't some third party company that sells these services to counties under contract. you would also be amazed at how rule crazy and nosy neighbors can be, even out in the woods.
fun story.. we built our house in 2019 on a plot that was former timberland -- our county has an ordinance that SFD's can not be placed within 500' of F1 (native forest, basically) zoned land.
so, long story short, we have the excavation/site dev people out to dig out the foundation and put down gravel. few days later wife and I are checking things out, and the neighbors come over to point out that the homesite isn't where it was marked on the site plan that was filed with the country, and that they are worried that we might be too close to F1 land.
few days after this the county comes out to measure the distance between the homesite and the F1 zoned land just beyond our property. >tl;dr the neighbors narc'd on us because they wanted to block our build. the HOA mentality is alive and well, if someone can stick their nose in your business, they will. especially if they can fuck you over.
Christopher Rogers
USA is shutting down the RV parks to. How is your freedom ? Obama said we don't need to follow the constitution. Here you are USA a lawless country or unrest.
Eli Miller
Yeah, on your back
John Anderson
the problem user is if you owned a plot of land, and wanted to put a tiny house/shop/barn whatever on it. And the county has some obscene strictures on these things (particularly the tiny house or a ted shed) -- and most counties do now, btw. irrespective of city limits.
such wonderful things as: >minimum sqft reqs >electrical permit >facility/driveway permit >plumbing >septic >so many fucking permits
at some point it just becomes silly. If you wanted to live on your land, should you need to jump through all those hoops? they're clearly designed for building a standard SFD, they have nothing to do with someone wanting to go off grid. it's your land, you know the risks.
at some point the rational choice becomes to just tell county to fuck off and do what you want to do. but then they scout your property from and come back at you with aerial/sat photos.
