Does anyone here remember the old internet? What was it like?
Does anyone here remember the old internet? What was it like?
like bags of sand
fpbp
full of retards anonymously posting their shit opinions to everyone else
Html websites very basic. It was not until video platforms became a thing that shit really got good. Google video, youtube, metcafe, yahoo video
hardly any censorship. my "Adolf Hitler was a man of honor gas the jews" thread was 10 years to see on a German forum.
>be like 14/15
>raised on a nes and starting to dabble on IRC
>go to my friends house
>see this
>he logs in, starts playing
>wtf this is insane
>wanna try it?
>SURE
>put on headphones, understand what the actual fuck im looking at, hear people talking to eachother
>mindfuckingblown
>years of LANs
It was the best time. roflmaoing at zoomers

Kinda like that^^ kinda..
blackpeopleloveus.com
is a good one
Too many threads on this weekly but it was empty. Ultima Online boasted 4 thousand players as a hit. I got on in 93 or 94. Played Starsiege Tribes and StarCraft in 98. It had shitposting but it was thoughtful shitposts. Lots of porn but it took forever to download. Not hires like today, or as many fetishes. A lot of it were magazine scans.
It was not as infiltrated by normies and I specifically remember a TFC match where an enemy medic had the name HIV spreader and he was good at infecting us. Just Any Forums without the boomers.
Early AOL days were golden. These were the days of progz, chat rooms, and intense clan VS clan inbox rolelaying. Nowadays it's all just shit.
There were less fags
literal bot thread
the ping sucked
I remember when search engines really had a million results for your query. You could keep clicking page after page but now it tells you there is a billion results yet the results stop at the 7th or 15th page
They removed everything accept for official permitted sources
You shouldn't use Google use Yandex instead
A serious lack of niggers and jews made early internet magical
>I remember the CS 1.3 LAN parties like it was yesterday
>mfw 21 years have passed
>t. zoomer retard who can't go 5 seconds without watching a shitty tik tok video about dancing thots
Internet 1.0 was based, you could have an actual interesting conversation with someone across the world and freely say nigger like it was nothing.
It was great we had physical magazines to talk about the information highway.
i called the best post btw no one new needs to reply
y'all dumb bots kek

It's like a time warp
It was a lot like pol with less shitposting and more fun.
For me internet started out on 56k baud. Never forget the phone noises dialing out it really felt like I was entering the matrix. It was magical
I remember opening yahoo chat rooms. I actually met this hot chick on there who lived 15 minutes from me. We fucked because 56k. Loved it
>Does anyone here remember the old internet? What was it like?
fucking lit
Everywhere was like Any Forums, almost no moderation anywhere, I played original CS as a mod for HL1 on DIALUP
I had to reconnect over and over again to get 26400 just to play (otherwise I'd get 21600 and have 400+ ping).
In the first iteration of CS the weapons on the group would persist through rounds, so while your team was hunting down the last guy everyone else would move all the weapons to their side by juggling them
shit was cash money nigga
Search engines are fucked. Tell me when you've found one that is in good english and doesn't nerf search operators. I've found more relevant, unique, and interesting content through dying forums, imageboards, and archives than I have search engines in the past half decade.
it was amazing and that's not just idolizing a more innocent and happy time. a lot of new things were happening. broadening your musical tastes via napster, playing an MMO for the first time like Ultima Online or EverQuest. CS was all the rage and for good reason. the Jane series of military sims, starfighter and fighter pilot games were going online for the first time. there was zero censorship, very little sign of the rampant narrative cultivation that we see now. it was really amazing.
it wasnt empty, but it was much smaller
I miss when people didn't follow a formula and still acted genuine in some way
It was off the chain. Nobody had a filter nobody gave a shit everyone got called a nigger. Nobody went on crusades to police speech cuz their feels. disagreements were left on the net
Browsed news groups the stuff on there i shall never unsee
STILE SUX
Im sure at the time I was using it in the late 90s, 200 people on a Diablo 1 channel was a lot. It meant the interactions were more significant.
>What was it like?
It was paradise. Then the smartphone Jew was invented, and then normalfags flooded in, making it the unusable garbage it is today.
>full of retards anonymously posting their shit opinions to everyone else
that's the current internet
>youtube.com
just legendary, we could tell if it would connect or not by the "music".
I can't argue with you on that! Fucking government took over the search engines. They had to if they wanted to keep ruling without an uprising. They were being exposed
It was like this only less gay bots like you
well good news then, it hasn't changed
