From the russian perspective WWII was very straneg and unexpected outcome.
Historically everybody and ther grandma invaded russia, like 50 times. Even the fucking canadians did, yes you heard that right.
Historically any empire in the eurasian plaines, including russia, could always only barely hod on, because the place is just too fricking hunge, with no natural borders.
It is so easy to invade and and conquer, but impossible to hold on to.
Remember, before the Russians there where the Mongols, the Bulgars, the Huns, the Scythians, Göktürks, Sarmats and many more who had vast empires and golden cities in the eurasian steppe. All of them, ALL of them crumbled to dust after 3 generations or so.
