But faith without works does not mean a faith that does not exist; it is a faith that bears no fruit. The context of the chapter is about "what does faith benefit someone if you don't actually help him out (fruits)"
Someone who died, existed. You can not be dead without having lived before. Faith saves you. And because i believe that you can not lose your salvation, because you did not earn it in the first place; your faith "dying" does not change where you go.
2 Timothy 2:13 If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.
Eternal life is eternal and you get it once you believe, if you were to lose it again (after a major sin for example) God would have lied.

Many calvinists and Lorship salvationists say "well, if you don't have works, you never had saving faith".
But Romans 4:5 tells you that a faith without works is possible, there is literally no other interpretation for it.
If Jesus paid for your sins, literally why would you required to be a good guy to go to heaven? not doing good works is sin, and SIN is what jesus paid for. The bible clearly says all God wants from you for salvation is that you believe.
Sure, God does not want you to sin and use it as a free-pass. You will screw up your life if you do that, You are commanded to walk in the spirit, pick up your cross daily and so on - but that is works. And has nothing to do with salvation.
