Let's suppose space civilian space travel is possible and interstellar exploration is in full swing. A butch of fringe groups; commies, libertarians, feminists, nazis, etc; decide to each colonise their own planet and start civilisation from scratch in their image.
Same thing we have today, just at a grimmer interstellar scale.

..and THEN other stars but without the infrastructure to build ships too large to ever launch off a respectable planet, with some kind of crazy nuclear-driven engines, we won't be making it to another star
If I were planet bound and needed a really big fucking spaceship, i'd probably just make the engine and slam it into a reasonably solid and large asteroid. Mine that out for both resources to build the ship proper and techno-caveman living space.

I'd colonize a planet with 100% northern climates. Fir trees, lakes, mountains, snow, wolves, moose, etc. No deserts, no jungles. Think of upper North America or Europe. Architecture would be a mix between medieval and futuristic. A defense matrix would surround the planet, yet not intrude upon the natural beauty of the sky.

I have a feeling the feminists would try to have a female only population using artificial fertilisation to reproduce. Which will work for a few generations before horrible defects become common thanks to the imperfect method.
The fringe groups would have to be very far from any kind of Galactic Federation because they would have an interest in shutting down any kind of civilizations like these. They would all be cut off from galactic trade and would be greatly weakened because of this. They would inevitably have to form an alliance of fringe planets.

Wonder how long it'd take for Planet Troon to end up destroying itself. Think they'd use a noose-shaped device?
