There is literally a famous Mexican martyr who was a seminarian who was murdered by agents of the government in front of a crowd of people after he refused to give up his beliefs.
Also, 'religious' basically means nothing at this point. Mexico is nominally Catholic and yet like 60%+ of births are out of wedlock lmao. This is true for virtually all of Latin America. Authentic religiosity is basically dead outside of the Middle East, Africa, and Indonesia. India is kind of religious and kind of not but it's weird there because it's an ethnic religion.

The presidents you mention are from over 90 years ago. What do they have to do with modern Mexico? Juarez was a servant to USA and an overblown myth, Cardenas was a mixed bag, Elias Calles had to do what he had to do or the Republic would have crumbled without his hand. Carranza was at least capable of establishing modern education to the majority of the country.
