>turret launch I was always confused why a force relying on mass tactics would use a tank design which tries to lower crew numbers. If anything, "huge turret with huge gun and a bunch of people inside" of american heavy tanks feels much more "soviet" to me.

Soviets always viewed soldiers same as ammunition: useful, but ultimately expendable. Russia inherited this mentality. Survivability & quality of life was never a concern, only immediate use.
