Under bush it went up up up to as high as now his whole time in office then the economy collapsed which depresses gas usage lowering the price. When the economy recovered under Obama, gas recovered to less then it was before the economy was destroyed and then Obama increased domestic oil production 120% after being in decline 50 years.
When trump got in he tore up Iran nuclear deal and sanctioned Iran and Venezuela which increased the price of gas significantly from what Obama only to crash the economy again which temporarily lowers oil prices
And we're in a unique situation now
