My annual holiday destination is 1300km away, I got 14 days off. If I did that in an EV my first 7 days would be spent driving there and charging, I would then arrive at my destination and return for a 7 day trip back home without unpacking.

There is some in the asteroid belt and further out, but, we're going to spend all our money on making sure black trannies can get their dicks cut off, not inter planetary mining operations. You can make gasoline, diesel, kerosene or any other hydrocarbon without any oil as an input.
CO2 dissolves into water concentrating it. Water is your source of hydrogen. Now it takes a lot of energy to extract the carbon and hydrogen and it comes out energy negative, but if the electric grid drops to 20% of peak demand overnight you have a lot of potential to store the energy.

Making it into gasoline is cheaper than saving the electricity in batteries. And it gives all the advantages of getting to keep all our engines, distribution systems and hundred years of engineering focused on making the best engines possible.
