There is ZERO basis in scripture for celibate priests...

I think in 1st Timothy it is mentioned that people should not have leadership positions in the church unless their house is in order. If you can't manage a family how can you be expected to manage a church? The only thing I can think of as a justification is that rant Paul went on about it being good to not be married if you can control your sexual urges. He then says that it is also good to be married right after that, and that each person should decide that for themselves. It isn't a call to celibacy, just a justification for why he put all of his effort toward spreading the gospel.

Go become a hermit... maybe Protestantism should allow for monks withdrawn from the world but clergy should not be celibate they should be required to have families.

Celibacy is biblical and the lord calls those who can handle it to partake.

The catholic church has perverted Christianity in so many ways. They claim absolution through ritual, not grace. They rely on rituals more than anything. They worship people, as well as the creator. They claim they need saints to pray for them when the bible clearly says that the Holy Spirit intercedes for us when we pray, and that everything we need is already known. They have been raping and abusing children for at least 200 years. Yes, there is documentation for that.

At the time(Paul/Saul), it made sense because Rome was hunting down and feeding Christians and their families to lions in the arena. I realize none of you protestants were there, but it was a real bad time to have your family eaten because Jesus told your to follow him.
And if you think that time has long passed, you haven't been paying attention to who/what is pushing the great reset.

Biblically, the Church leaders are supposed to have a family, and are supposed to show that they are in control of their wife and children, and that in turn shows that they would be good to have in control of the local congregation.

However, despite me being a Non-Denominational Protestant; it makes sense why the Catholic Church decided to implement celibacy for their priests. It has always been recognised that the Church wields power, and historically those with the education necessary to actually be a priest would often come from a select few wealthy and power-hungry dynasties. It was very common for them to attempt to get their children into the Church so as to wield yet more power. The implementation of the celibacy policy was a very effective method of stopping the political types seeking to use the Church for power. Whilst it still happened on occasion that a younger brother would be sent to the Church and would be expected to look out for his family's best interests; the fact that he, himself, would have no future made it far more likely that he would act morally and righteously, instead of using his powers for nepotistic ends.

It certainly worked to some extent, and it should be recognised for it being a pragmatic solution that ensured more genuinely faithful men sought positions in the Church, as opposed to just those seeking earthly power.

In the modern day, with universal education, there is no reason for the priests to take a vow of celibacy. Their continued adherence to it shows that the Catholics, like the Pharisees before them (who are also the jews), are more concerned with their own traditions than with doing what God commanded, or what is logically right and good.
