An actually good boss picks up the slack when someone's sick, shields his subordinates from bullshit, and advocates for them against the rest of the company and against shitty customers. Good bosses are rare though, for sure.

I would say I had one good boss in my life. I have mostly worked in the offshore oil industry and since covid more land based plumbing stuff. money is always good for men willing to do a modicum of dirty work these days. I am talking over 100k per year if you have any skill. much more if you know how to sell to people. but I digress. My one good boss was offshore. Chief engineer. Cajun guy. I hated him at first. He made fun of me like crazy. After a few months though I realized it was all in good fun and that is just how men communicate. We became good friends I think. always insulting eachother in the most outrageous ways and laughing our assess off about it. My grandfather made the modern day equivalent of about $150k a year by just walking into a workplace and asking for a job with no education, no special skills, not even an exceptional work ethic. My grandfather bought a house in the suburbs for the modern day equivalent of $100k. My grandfather married my grandmother back when women were just starting to be empowered to hate their husbands.

My grandfather had incentives to be a good family man and to work within the system. None of those incentives exist for men in 2022.
