Gonna have to disagree with this. Moved recently to a town slightly to the east of Nashville, and it’s an almost entirely white rural community. You certainly see some poverty, but it’s nowhere near what you see in major cities. The biggest downsides I’ve found are it’s a massive commute into Nashville, and getting to and from stores also is more of a trip than if you’re in a typical suburb or city. But I was someone looking to be more removed, so the mild inconveniences have ultimately been worth it. Oh and if you’re down for it there’s tons of churches of pretty much every variety if you’re looking to build community that way.

You’d likely have to be close to Nashville if that’s a big part of your life. There was an Orthodox commune close-ish to where I’m at, but it had to close down because they could never retain enough people to keep it going.
