To drive further derision among the people. It's a tactic for demoralizing the people. When people can't agree on anything or have a common belief/culture, they won't unite or work together for a common good IE against a tyrannical government.
You watch, there's going to be more riots, extreme shootings or glowing "terrorist attacks" in the US and they're going to use this in part to try and take away more freedoms and rights while people clap and cheer for their "peace and security" being protected.
