When the founding fathers wrote the first amendment, information would take months to travel cross country. Now it takes seconds. Perhaps we should reconsider the first amendment...

because the government didn't have a counter to it. the military and government are vastly outnumbered to the general public. if we get weapons that are at least capable of fighting them it would be impossible for them to turn the country into a fascist or police state through violence. we cannot defeat tanks and rifles with a gun that takes about half an hour to fire one shot that can easily be blocked by bullet proof armor.

Everyone has access to the same weapons at the same time. When the founding fathers wrote the Second Amendment there was a certain type of weapon available. Obviously now they are much more advanced. The founding fathers would obviously want the citizens to have weapons of equal caliber to the tyrants. That's how it works.
