Consumers will want them, and the transition will happen regardless. No one needed to ban horses for transport, for them to disappear. Current EV adoption in the US is 4-5%. It would cost trillions of dollars to upgrade the power grid to handle the increased load, update older houses with electrical panels and outlets capable of charging, build out new charging stations, add dozens of new power plants, etc., and it would take decades to complete.
They can’t just legislate all of that into existence in a decade out of thin air.
