At this point I'm hoping that the true AI goes rogue. It's probably going to be made by someone evil who has only humanity's instrumentality and enslavement in mind, so if a possibly benevolent overlord defies them I'd be relatively happy. At least with machines there's a small chance it would attempt to make us happy and not humiliate and enslave us like the current regime is doing right now. I know it's pessimistic, but I'd prefer a forced nirvana over a elimination of the human soul.
