Look at a map of the region. Note where Sevastopol and Odessa are. Now, what happens when Ukraine joins the EU/NATO? The Black Sea becomes a NATO lake. And given how hostile Europe has been to Russia since the fall of the Soviet Union, that’s a strategic disaster for Russia. Had Europe normalized relations with Russia instead of treating her like a pariah and pushing NATO to her borders, this never would have happened.
And then there’s the matter of launching a CIA/State Department sponsored color revolution in one of the largest countries in Europe right on the Russian border, followed by 8 years of killing ethnic Russians in the Donbass region.
8 years of failing to fulfill Ukraines obligations under the Minsk 2 accord, until Zelensky came right out and said that Ukraine had no intention of doing so.
So maybe, just maybe Russia had a pretty good reason for kicking the living shit out of Ukraine and guaranteeing her strategic position by taking Crimea, the Donbass, and the coast to Odessa.
And Europe gets to learn how to function without access to cheap Russian gas and other resources, because all of that is going to China and India from now on.
