I have had 20 surgeries on my spine and I was rejected. It's a meme to get SSDI for your back now. You also need several years worth of work credits to qualify for SSDI or else you are stuck with SSI, which doesnt pay more than 800 USD.

The only thing I would add on to this is have the girl, if shes not working, claim at least $3400 or w/e the magic number is in income and pay the $340. Even if she didn't, just claim self employed doing random tasks for people. That way she gets negative earned income credits that apply to the minimal social security too.
