Is college worth it?

if you're a midwit, sure

If you need a degree for your specific career then sure but don’t just go because you want to carry on the high school experience

As a midwit, it got me a nice steady $200K/year salary.

here come the boomers. something they can all proudly chime in on

how much was your loan repayment?

Worth what?

Yes and no. You need a degree, even if it’s a shitty one, to get most “middle class” jobs.. but the debt also makes sure you never leave the middle class unless you are smart or lucky.

Its a waste of time unless you are attractive

If you need it for something specific and have a backup plan then yes, if not then go to community college or do a trade

it

It really just depends on the field.

I was making $35,000/year doing actual work before college, got a degree in something you needed to be licensed in, now I'm making $90,000/year in a comfy work-from-home job.

Yes it was expensive, tuition was about 10k/year, but I did my first 2 years at community college which was basically free, then I worked part-time to while in college.

You could also make the argument that college is 100% worth it for the social experience and networking alone. I know plenty of people who found their husband/wife at college.

After taking advanced classes all through K-12 and then going to a selective college, society sucks as you're constantly dealing with the other end of the bell curve.

Zero. My employer at the time paid for my community college, I earned scholarships that covered my BS, and all PhD programs are compensated. Maybe there was an opportunity cost wrt lost salary/time while in grad school, but I think my higher salary offsets this.

It's good if you want to go into medicine, surgery, law or research.
For everything else it's all just useless bloat and an applied education is a lot more useful.
It's very (((profitable))), though, so the Mickey Mouse courses just keep coming and coming.

Absolutely... not.

Learning is not possible, you can only be as intelligent as your genes allow you to be. It is not possible to learn, only to memorize information, and the internet is better at teaching than universities could ever be.

Not necessarily. Sometimes the things you want to learn, such as those related to chemistry and biology, require equipment and other stuff you can't set up at home. A university can provide that.
>the internet is better at teaching than universities could ever be
It absolutely is, but the key is curiosity and motivation, which can only come from the right upbringing.
The modern Western school system has created hordes of lazy parents who would rather just dump their children into state brainwashing work camps to force them to learn shit they don't need.
The educational bloat continues in universities as well.
I think it's better to have smaller universities with people who actually want to learn rather than overgrown ones filled with lazy midwits just looking to score a barely passing grade to get some piece of paper at the end.

Studied my engineering in Mexico for free. It matters depends on what career.

This is such a meme fake intellectual question I hate it. The answer is super simple, if the job you want requires it, go to college. If you want to be a waiter or a plumber forever then obviously not. That's it.

if entering the profession of your dreams requires it, yes.
if you want the experience in your life, yes.

Only if you intend to use it to get into a high paying job. For learning, it’s garbage. Best if you get an employer or the state to pay for it. Don’t be a fag wagie or tradie because you’re too lazy to get a degree if you’re high iq

Nothing is worth it

Yes, so long as you don't get a meme degree in the arts/social sciences.

Yes if you major in math, science, computer science, finance, or accounting. This does not include biology.

But I am a professor so what do I know?

What about engineering?

Forgot that one. I guess I accidentally included it in science. Engineering (outside civil and architecture) is a really good degreen

What's the details? I'm about to go to college for ME and would love to not pay for it.

How would you rank the subdivisions on engineering? Chem>EEE>mech>civil?

not if you are white because you wont get a full tuition scholarship and will have to pay like 30 grand

Electrical and chemical engineering are legit top tier, they're hard AF and you can't just BS your way through it.

Nuclear>materials>Petroleum >chemical>ee>mechanical>>civil
This is based on salary/openings

Nuclear is government only. Materials is good but chemistry focused which might not be everyone's cup of tea. Petroleum is winding down and basically a branch of chem. Rest I agree with though

College is worth it if you wish to become a transexual communist. It's probably never worth it in europe, the prison of mediocrity, where the gap between rich and poor is €50

as sb with a master degree, no not always, i often tought i should have done a trade, and apprenticeship, it would have been easier, and if one works independently (and doesn't pay taxes/ to work black translated from german) i would have also made good money. You will always be on the safe side if you do medicine, become a doctor, but there are no other studies where you will be guaranteed to have a job.
