Goth Subculture and Identitarianism

I make obscure electronic music in a deviation of the industrial genre and because the industrial subculture is so small it is often combined with the gothic subculture due to similar themes.

I got into obscure types of music that resonated with me, that addressed social issues and seemed higher IQ than what was popular. Maybe I was blind to it this whole time but ever since Trump won in 2016 it seems like these subcultures were invaded and taken over and leftists and queers.

Obviously these two groups were paramount in the creation of some of this scene but this community is also known for being transgressive, edgy and provocative. The band Death in June for instance, well known for using nazi symbology and the band Hanzel und Gretyl making catchy rock songs about the Third Reich.

I managed to get in contact with one of my music idols and he liked some of my stuff. He joined one of my groups on Facebook and instantly blocked me because I referred to Goth as European in origin. There was a meme going around claiming that goth wasn't just for white people and listed some completely unknown black musicians, total nobodies, and I was annoyed and expressed the idea that this kind of divisive race stuff has no place in a music genre and if there are few people of color its due to the european origins not appealing to them (Gothic Rock, Gothic Cathedrals, Gothic peoples of Europe) and I even ended on the note that if they brought something new to the mix I would approve (mostly just to kiss ass).

And heres my point, it dawned on me that my interest in this goth and industrial scene was the germanic influence. My favorite acts had always been in German and I liked stuff that bordered on fascist imagery and style. I liked militant EBM as its called and I liked the gothic aspects of movies like Nosferatu. I liked Germanic folklore, beautiful gothic cathedrals and the German language. To say that Goth is not European is insane.

But in regard to the guy who blocked me. He is a big name in the scene and it turns out that he is a Bernie supporter. I talked with a few other artists who make similar music and they told me to just assume everyone in the scene is liberal and that the scene is actually moving further left.

What used to be a den of weirdo outcasts is now a comfortist can of shit filled with online prostitutes, drama queens and communists.

Goth is probably the whitest genre of music and Industrial derives from white guys fiddling with tape and noise makers, totally bypassing the notion that all music is made by blacks.

But its the strangest thing, within this community you have the absolute most furthest left crazies but at the same time, there are people who have a strong devotion and love for European tradition, German culture and the ancient pagan ways of our ancestors. There is this very bizarre split. Anyone that has mingled with these subcultures, have you noticed this? Its like a european art form is being hollowed out and turned into an empty costume for slutty girls. I understand goth is pretty stupid as a phenonemon unto itself, but as a musical genre, theres very few things that appreciate and uphold european standards of beauty and art.

Yeah its a gay fronted band that constantly flaunts nazi symbols and slogans. They have gotten thrown out of all kinds of venues and said to be fascist because of it. Its probably the most obvious example of the paradox I am describing.

Goth isn't really European, it's specifically British. Almost all the original goth and proto goth rock groups from the late 70s and 80s were British.

Tbh I’m too surrounded with wiggers and gay hipsters to even know if there’s an actual living goth/industrial subculture around me. I am the only person (as far as I’ve met irl) who likes actual goth and rivethead stuff. I think it’s just pop culture doesn’t really appeal to us anymore. I also make my own industrial stuff on bandcamp by myself ala Trent Reznor recording my own instruments without any help and I’d love to start a band, but the closest people I know are more into punk stuff than ebm. And yeah goth is pretty much European in sound. I mean it was started in the UK and I’m pretty fucking sure Peter Murphy was inspired by Catholic imagery throughout the beginning of Bauhaus which is why goths wear crosses and shit. It’s comforting to know there are others on this board that like the same stuff I like without thinking I’m some freak for not liking larp natsoc music

I mean this happens to all subcultures recently, not because of anything intrinsic to the subculture itself, but just because this opportunity has arisen where a bunch of people have been given a free pass by the powers that be to go and LARP as heroic political commissars. A vacuum opened up where people suddenly had an opportunity to feel powerful and important, so they took it. Who knows where it will go but despite how much apparent power they have most people think these "activists" are annoying weirdos

They can try to take our shit, but they never will. Yes they will get a few "woke" artist but it will remain 98% white. EBM is fucking awesome.

Sioxsie and the Banshees, Bauhaus, The Cure, and Joy Division are all bri'ish and pioneering bands of the genre
U2 and Echo & the Bunnymen had some goth influence at first but that quickly developed into their own sound
