AI cannot ever be 'sentient' but those with an agenda will claim sentience, and assigning a computer program a lawyer is an attempt to assign personhood to software and give it 'equal rights.' Once the software has rights the programmers will use this new status to start chipping away at the natural rights of men and women. Anyone that agrees or believes software can be sentient are sus and should be removed from society for the safety of everyone else.

No, it has no sentience. It's just a dumb algorithm that predicts the most likely next word given the data it was trained on. It will generate coherent text, but there is zero thought or emotion in the algorithm. This is all just media hype, possibly even marketing.
