He had no excuse for it either, because Napoleon literally read Adam Smith's Wealth of Nations in 1802 when he was First Consul. He just arrived at the wrong conclusion (hurt Britain by banning trade with them) instead of the correct conclusion (undermine Britain's elite class by trading with Britain's merchant class)

True the beginning drags on a bit, but the book kicks into gear when he becomes general of the Army of Italy in 1796 and starts shitting on everyone; right after that comes the Egyptian adventure and then he goes back to Paris to coup the government.
