It depends on the state of the borehole and the extraction unit placed on top of it. Good holes and proper equipment will not permit leaks of any kind and the quality of the sea water should be good, having little to no traces of oil.
Also, the majority of the oil should be floating on top of the water so if there isnt any oil on the surface, it should be generally be fine.

In the Gulf of Mexico, oil naturally seeps out of geologic fissures and is digested by native microbial flora.
That's why the Deep Water Horizons blow-out plume of oil dissapeared within a week: the existing oil-eating bacteria bloomed, plankton feasted on the bacteria, other sea life feasted on the plankton, etc. and the whole spill just became part of everything naturally there.
