One of the worst things about the propaganda coming out of this war is that its completely unoriginal. Take pic related for instance. Its a drumming up of the same tired narrative and a spin on an old tale that actually happened at one time (i believe in the 70s). Before a film, Soviets were often subjected to propaganda newsreels. One in particular purported to show the plight of Americans living in the slums of Manhattan. There's a famous clip of a family huddled in a small studio apartment with the television on. Only there was one big problem the propagandists overlooked: it was a color TV. Which would have been a major luxury item for anyone in the Soviet Union at the time. Thus, the propaganda completely backfired. Your average Russian began to question the narrative about Americans being capitalist slaves.
Fast forward to today, they're rehashing a similar narrative, only this time it is aimed at the West, to make them think the Russians are backwards people. Also, most likely, to make older folks still associate Russia with poverty and thus with the Soviet Union, because those people were incredibly conditioned to hate the Soviets. They're trying to flip that Soviet-hate switch back on in Boomer and Gen X minds.
