Oftentimes prisoners would refuse to eat, especially those kept in solitary confinement. They tried to commit suicide by starving themselves to death because they hated it so much. My dad said medical professionals are allowed to strap them down and force-feed them... "MY JOB IS TO KEEP YOU ALIVE UNTIL YOU DIE". There's people in prison who are serving life sentences who were convicted when they were 18... and have been trying to die now for years, but the doctors keep force-feeding them to life.
