I live paycheck to paycheck at 33 years old, went to uni (college for you yanks), and have a job making almost £65k per year before taxes. I live alone in a one-bedroom apartment with my dog in london, no children, and I haven't taken a real holiday in over ten years. I do not own anything "designer" and do not party or go to clubs/bars.
Just 40 years ago with a job like mine, i would have a beautiful 4-bedroom home and two cars, plenty of money for luxury goods and vacations, and STILL have plenty left over to save for retirement. Would also likely have a pension. But in 2022, I am barely getting by. Whenever you hear someone say "be thankful you have a job", tell them "my bosses should be thankful I come to work."
