In old captures news, a very common sight among both L/DPR and TDF units, a TT-30 pistol in very good condition retrieved from a UKR serviceman who surrendered after running out of rifle ammunition.
A very reliable, if old hat, 1911 derived system like many other of its time.

Honestly, Tokarev pistols are based and better than modern 9x19mm solutions for armor penetration. Can't blame them for using what they have.

Tokarevs are decent pistols. Most of the fighting is done with artillery anyways, and almost all the gunfighting is done with rifles.

My dad took one of these off of a high-ish ranking Viet Cong member that tried to sneak up on his sleeping platoon in a rice field. One of my dad's platoon members spotted him and yelled out - which caused him to slink back into a rice patty. My dad said that he was so pissed off that someone tried to sneak up on him at night that he immediately grabbed his platoon member's M-16 (he was issued the M60 machine gun) and went to go confront whoever was trying to sneak up on him. He walked slowly to the rice patty with his M-16 at his hip because they were trained to hip fire in those days. He saw an odd dark shadow in the rice patty about the size of a turkey. When he got about 8 feet away, suddenly a chink lunged at him out of the darkness. My dad blasted him with his M-16 still on his hip and dumped his entire mag into him on full auto. He said that he immediately collapsed like a sack of potatoes and died without making a single sound. His platoon searched his body and found his wallet, ID, a long combat knife (my dad thinks that he was trying to sneak up on him and slit his throat like a ninja), and one of these pistols. They offered him the pistol and he accepted it since he was pissed off about not being issued a sidearm. He still has it to this day. He had professionally blued when he got home. Still looks pretty mint 50+ years later.
