Is long haul trucking a thing in the rest of the world? Why doesn't the US use trains for that?

We use trains as much as we can

You can’t put trains in every city. Trains do carry a lot of cargo though but it’s not feasible with 300+ million people.

>Why doesn't the US use trains for that?
the interstate highway system is more interconnected and trucks can actually go right to the loading docks of stores instead of a train depot

Modern railway companies can't handle the demand

the usa is extremely vast so you have no idea how many trains it would take, tens of thousands, all running empty 99% of the time

it's retarded

roads are public
tracks are private

Make the train longer

nigga we got trains everywhere the fuck are you talking about

USA requires greater flexibility of transportation. Trains do not provide the same level of flexibility that trucks do.
Honk honk.

they do, intermodal boxes get loaded onto trains and usually head to chicago or atlanta, but they dont have trains going everywhere and shit still needs to go from the train yard to the store.

Also America is pretty spread the fuck out

They already did that, and it is fucking up the logistics
3 mile trains can't find a siding to get in to let other trains get by and end up holding the rest of them up

They've been doing that for the past couple of years but it's becoming a problem in towns with rail crossings because it can delay emergency vehicle on the wrong side of the track.

t. Norfolk Southern executive

They have Euro Truck Simulator for a reason.

The biggest city in the world is Tokyo Japan.
13.96 million people.

why is op retarded?

trains run on tracks

trucks run on roads

We havent built new track in decades

trains most of the way, trucks the rest.

why are burger trucks so short? most of the rigs here are 25-34m (85-111"ft")

Definitely is in Brazil. Guy on cocaine drove his truck into a bunch of parked cars and houses a few days ago. He was coming from Buenos Aires to midwest Brazil and hadn't slept in 5 days.
