Think about how many living beings make up your body. Your bloodcells are alive and acting. Every cell in your body is alive and acting. We are our own consciousness as ourselves, but ourself is the collective consciousness of these living cells that make us up. It even adds up into a consciousness that is more sentient than the sum of it's parts. Our cells individually are not aware of themselves, but we as the collective of our cells are aware. God is the sum of all of collective existence and consciousness when you take this phenomenon to it's logical end conclusion
