http is plain text. Fire up wireshark and access an http site if you want to see for yourself. https at least can keep other people on your local network/ISP from snooping on your traffic (of course glowies still can).

It's called plain text, because it will encrypt the request with AES and then XOR it with such a key to make it seem like some other text is being sent. It is also plain, because it sends only what it needs to unlike HTTPS, which also sends your location data and your browsing history

Do you understand how certificate encryption works? You choose to trust a CA on your computer, then all signed certificates that originate from that CA are now assumed safe and the traffic communicated over the internet is encrypted then decrypted using that key pair. No one in the middle between you and the website can read the traffic... that's the point. If you don't trust the mainstream CAs, you're free to remove them from your computer.
Also, HTTP is the inverse, its unencrypted so the traffic can be intercepted. You can't actually be this retarded.
