This technology is pretty clearly decades ahead and only being shown to the public to desensitize them to the fact that some form of AI has been in control of the world for at least 10 years, probably more

ML algorithms work like this:
>have a human tag a bunch of samples as category A or B
>write an algorithm to parse those samples into features
>map those features into a very high dimensional vector space
>use the tags to draw a hyperplane dividing the hyperspace into "A space" and "B space"
>parse a brand new untagged sample into features and map it to feature space
>determine how far into A Space or B Space it lies

But if you actually read it, it's very apparent, it's just stumbling around the vague shape of what it's doing, but it has no actual idea of the detail. That is what Machine Learning is all about.
