Get certifications in what you want to do in life, make sure they are in productive careers that can't possibly be outsourced or easily replaced.
Don't buy fast food. Four fast food meals can cover a week's worth of groceries.
Only rent a place if you know it's going to be temporary. If you are going to stay put somewhere, buy a house with a mortgage you can afford. There are a number of places where it's on par with rent, but you will at least own the place.
Buy in rundown places and fix it up. Stay armed at all times. It's not called the concrete jungle for nothing.
If you have the time for it, consider investing/cashing in cheap, volatile stocks. If you buy on a rise, you can quickly sell a lot of stock and make some money. If you buy on a dip, you don't have to wait long for another wave.
