no, blue hair was cool in NYC around 2009-2012. I started with the hipster "seapunk" movement/fad/subculture, mostly in bushwick. It had no political meaning other than signaling interest in a weird aesthetic sub-subculture. Eventually it went mainstream and anything mainstream isnt cool anymore in brooklyn, and seapunk died as quickly as it appeared.
