Jared seems to assume that the average intelligence of all the races is equal, and frankly he should know better, but it is also undeniable that having top tier crops is a huge advantage. On the other hand, if blacks had developed the intellect and propensity for abstract thought that whites got, africa would have been an utterly boundless pile of insurmountable riches architecture scientific advancements and philosophical texts.
