What do right-wingers mean when they keep mindlessly repeating "we're a republic not a democracy" and why is it always in response to people criticizing the latest anti-democratic thing right-wingers are trying to push? They just say "we're a republic not a democracy" without any further elaboration and it's almost like even they don't understand what they're saying.

They're wrongfully assuming that you're smart enough to figure out the difference yourself.
In a democracy the people themselves (the demos of the polis) form the executive council (bule) that acts as the executive of the state. The ekklesia is governed by a rotating council elected by lot. Does that sound like the American system to you?
The truth is we’re both a republic and a democracy. Most governments aren’t as black and white as the faggots that spend their days talking about theory online would like to believe
Why don't you explain the difference? It must be very simple and I'm just too dumb to understand it.
They mean they're not in direct communion with the politics, there is a middleman that takes their requests and sends them up. Theoretically it stops the masses from doing harm, but if the masses have reached that stage, the only middlemen you get are demagogues, "people leaders" or trainers
>they dont understand what they are saying
You are the one who seems to not understand the difference, OP. Because there is a significant difference. And you should have learned the difference in highschool.
>The truth is we’re a Jewish oligarchy
FTFY
One wonders why you would even taking the time to pose if you weren't going to bother explaining this simple difference.
Because it is something you should already know. It is taught to every single fucking child in the US in gradeschool. I bet if jiggawattnigger made a rap song about it, you would be able to recite it verbatum. Or are you a harry poofter faggot?
>words words words
You keep posting and yet you seem completely and utterly incapable of explaining this simple difference. Why is that? I have half a mind to simply post the definition and make you look a fool, but I'll give you once last out.
A democracy is broadly defined as “control of an organization or group by the majority of its members.”
Our government is supposed to be limited by the Constitution which was ratified by ALL states, not a majority. The Constitution recognizes individual rights which reflect natural law. These rights are not granted or revoked by a simple majority.
Google it, you fucking nigger. I am not your mother. I am not here to spoonfeed you and tuck you in at night. You made the thread. I am just here to shit on your stupidity.
So far not one person in this thread other than me has accurately described what a democracy is and how it functions.
..
>republic: a state in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives, and which has an elected or nominated president rather than a monarch.
>democracy: a system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives.
Huh, so the mindless parroting of "wErE a RePubLiC nOt a DeMoCrAcY!!!!" makes about as much sense as saying "A Chevy Mustang isn't a Chevy, it's a two-door sedan made by General Motors". A meaningless statement repeated by morons who think they've stumbled upon something interesting to add to a political discussion. I'm glad we could clear that up, and you really didn't have to embarrass yourself like this, I gave you several chances.
In a Democracy, the majority rules. In a Republic, laws rule, and the rights of the minority are protected.

I think they mean that the country consists of multiple states, and every state has the right to be heard and needs that must be accounted for regardless of the population.
America is huge. And of you compare it to europe, then it wouldnt make sense for one over populated country to decide how all other countries should live.
I dont think russian laws would fit very well in spain for example.
And in America, some states are over populated, and Just a couple of these states would be enough votes to rule over the rest of the country.
Do you think people in LA and NY cares about farmers in Kansas?
If you have 51% og the population living in 1 city, covering 1% of the land. And they are all pedos who wants it to ve legal, while 49% lives in the remaining 99% of the country, and they dont want it to be legal, then you see the problem.
Thats why thete are so many state laws as well. Its basically lots of countries.
Why are you acting like the two are completely mutually exclusive?
>The primary positions of power within a republic are attained through democracy or a mix of democracy with oligarchy or autocracy rather than being unalterably occupied by any given family lineage or group.
>What do right-wingers
retarded nigger
A constitutional republic is a state where the chief executive and representatives are elected, and the rules are set down in a written constitution.
Constitutional monarchies are a special case: even though the monarch is not elected, the people still elect other governing bodies. The constitution also limits the power of the monarch.
There are countries which nominally are constitutional republics, but which have become (in effect) dictatorships. There are also countries which have no written constitution, and are monarchies, but which act in a similar way to constitutional republics.
>And in America, some states are over populated, and Just a couple of these states would be enough votes to rule over the rest of the country.
Plenty of right-wingers in California, plenty of left-wingers in Texas. People vote, not land masses.
>Do you think people in LA and NY cares about farmers in Kansas?
An incoherent red herring.
>If you have 51% og the population living in 1 city, covering 1% of the land. And they are all pedos who wants it to ve legal, while 49% lives in the remaining 99% of the country, and they dont want it to be legal, then you see the problem.
If you don't take retarded hypotheticals that make zero sense seriously, then you see why I'm not really taking you seriously.
>Thats why thete are so many state laws as well. Its basically lots of countries.
No, it is not "basically lots of countries", because legally none of them can supersede federal law. And if you're thinking about moving the goalposts by bringing up marijuana, you're welcome to do so, just think through whether you want to go out of your way to embarrass yourself or not.
Yes, I think you’re probably right.
>If you have 51% og the population living in 1 city, covering 1% of the land. And they are all pedos who wants it to ve legal, while 49% lives in the remaining 99% of the country, and they dont want it to be legal, then you see the problem.
I had to read this a second time to fully realize how truly retarded it is. Okay, what if 35% of the population were pedos who wanted it to be legal, but they were spread out appropriately over just the right land masses, and the other 65% who didn't want it legal were all concentrated in one city? So even though the vast majority don't want it, guess what, pedos win!
Dang, another right-winger perfectly capable of explaining this simple difference takes the time out of his day to post and forgets to answer the question. I can't catch a break :(
Explain how the electoral college works in this democracy you keep mentioning.
Damn, that was weak. Do you want to try that again?
