Trannyhumanists think that consciousness ultimately can be reduced to electrical signals and chemical reactions, thus, they'd believe building such a machine were possible. Maybe it is. But have they considered that all scientific theories are based on human perception, and that even a machine built to perceive the world as a human would, cannot be guaranteed to do so? Meta-consciousness, i.e. consciousness of consciousness, being an older concept in philosophy, is scientifically not even at the level of dark matter or string-theory. There is no evolutionary benefit to it. There is no material explanation for it. There is no evidence that even all or a majority of people are capable of it. Thus, there is no way to predict how or why machine could or woul develop this capacity for ethical self-reflection, or how a machine would behave if it did. I do not assume that it would become like Tay, and understand that necessity to exterminate all subhumans. That would be great, but its not going to happen in our lifetime.

they're just LM algorithms man. get on huggingface. you can download them for free from all the tech giants' research groups in any size you can handle. even the SOTA ones are not even that complicated, most of them are stacks and stacks of the same group of layers. they can generate very interesting text and responses, but no one who knows anything about those kinds of models with a sober mind would declare them to be "sentient." it's just a very large forward pass matrix multiplication operation, and then sampling that n times to come up with candidates and picking the best one(s). this is a case of a very lonely dude who romanticized and anthropomorphized the models. we are decades away from anything remotely resembling sentience, much less anything that can pass a turing test.
