Mostly the rural areas holding it back. Cities are sometimes disgusting too but at least they have toilets there. Overall it's not as bad as Any Forums says it is, it has many beautiful aspects like their nature and temples. I did literally see a guy taking a shit in a field though, so there's that.

The cities are a lot more disgusting. the rural has the benefit of digging hole in a field to use as a toilet. Cities though have shitting streets, open sewers and plastic burning.
and Goa, kerela an punjab don't count as real india desu, himalaya is superior aswel.

It depends which city desu. The (plastic) trash is a problem everywhere I agree. Mumbai was pretty clean and had some nice parks. New Delhi was the biggest shithole I've ever been to. Could literally taste and smell the car fumes when exiting buildings. Couldn't even see the stars, sun or moon there.
