Gazprom announces fewer gas flows to Germany

Russia's Gazprom has said it wants to limit gas supplies via the Nord Stream 1 pipeline to Germany to up to 100 million cubic metres (mcm) per day. The pipeline can normally transport 167 million cubic metres of gas.
In a statement on Telegram, the energy giant added this was "due to the delayed return of gas compressor units from repair" by the German Siemens Group and "technical engines' malfunctions.”
Russian gas deliveries to Europe have dropped significantly since European sanctions against Moscow for its war of aggression against Ukraine came into force.
For Germany, Nord Stream 1 is the main supply pipeline with Russian gas. The German economy ministry said security of supply "currently continues to be guaranteed".
"We are monitoring the situation and examining the facts," a spokeswoman for the German Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection said.

Putin still wants to capture much if not all of Ukraine - US official
Russian President Vladimir Putin is still hoping to take the vast majority of Ukraine despite failings at the beginning of the invasion, according to US Under Secretary of Defence for Policy Colin Kahl.
But the US official believes the Russian president's hopes are rather different from the reality.
"I still think he has designs on a significant portion of Ukraine, if not the whole country," Mr Kahl said.
"That said, I do not think he can achieve those objectives."
He continued: "They may make tactical gains here and there. The Ukrainians are holding up. I do not think the Russians have the capacity to achieve those grandiose objectives."
At the beginning of the invasion, Russia had hoped to capture the Ukrainian capital in a lightning-fast strike and topple the government.
However, after weeks of intense fighting and mistakes by Russia's military, Russian forces had to withdraw from the north of the country.
They have instead refocused their efforts on Ukraine's east, where Ukrainian forces and pro-Russian separatists have been fighting since 2014.

Russia issues entry ban to dozens of British journalists and defence figures - including Sky News correspondent
Dozens of British journalists, media representatives and defence industry figures have been banned from entering Russia.
Journalists from media organisations including Sky News, BBC News, The Guardian and The Times are among those personally banned.
Sky News' chief correspondent Stuart Ramsay and presenter Sophy Ridge have been banned, along with BBC News' Clive Myrie and Orla Guerin and Channel 4 News presenter Cathy Newman.
Russia's foreign ministry said the ban was in response to Western sanctions and pressure on its state-run media outlets abroad.
It also said the journalists were involved in "deliberate dissemination of false and one-sided information about Russia and events in Ukraine and Donbas".
More than a dozen British figures Moscow said were linked to the defence industry have also been banned.

Why we shouldn't just be focusing on Ukraine's east
We've been reporting lots on the happenings in Ukraine's eastern Donbas region, which has become a key focus for Russia's invasion.
But expert Dr Mike Martin, a former British Army officer and war studies visiting fellow at King's College London, believes there is also something interesting happening around Kherson in Ukraine's south.
The area was taken by Russian forces earlier in the invasion, but Dr Martin says the Ukrainians have managed to push the Russians back by about 10km over the past two weeks - a length roughly equivalent to the gains Russia has made in the east.
"Kherson is important for two reasons. Firstly the Russians were gonna hold a referendum there and declare it part of Russia. You don't hear much about that any more," he wrote on Twitter.
"And secondly - it is the only foothold that the Russians have got north or west of the Dnipro river - a major major strategically important water barrier that runs through Ukraine all the way up to Kyiv."
He continued that if Russian forces hold Kherson, they will have a "launch pad" for future incursions.
But if the Ukrainian forces take it back, the country will be "a lot more defendable going forward".
