I just found out and it fucks my head a little
Why do americans play 1812 overture at July 4th?
Doesn't it sound a bit odd, all that russian lyrics and church bells and shiet to celebrate an american independence?

It's not the only piece we play on the 4th. We like it because it's bombastic. Also, until today I never knew it had lyrics. American performers leave that out.
>Why do americans play 1812 overture at July 4th?
I've lived in America all my life and never once heard the 1812 played anywhere. Why do Russians believe such nonsense? That's the real question.
It got popular when Americans thought it was about their war of 1812 and they just kept it even after it was explained to them that it had nothing to do with America.
>Why do Russians believe such nonsense?
Because the Russian media is the same people as the American media. Turn on your public access television channel and learn about the world's opinions.
We like it becuz CANNONS BOOM BOOBITYBOOBITYBOOM
I've never associated the 1812 overture with independence day, but it sure is a wonderful piece of music.
what's this then?

thanks for the read
Because when you watch the Chicago Symphony play it on the 4th on Navy Pier, with the fireworks going off over Lake Michigan, real canons going off to be timed with the bass drum hits, it’s just beautiful.
Personally, I’ll take Sousa marches, and Bagley’s National Emblem March just so I can sing, “And the monkey wrapped his tail around the flagpole to see his asshole, who’d he he see? He saw YOU!”
And also they lost in 1812
>I've lived in America all my life and never once heard the 1812 played anywhere
Either uncultured or spic immigrant then
Based and symphony pilled
Americans even stole Finlandia hymn from Sibelius. They have no shame, no honoUr, no soul.
>American performers leave that out.
not all of them do what's funny is that Tchaikovsky didn't even write any lyrics, americans adding them by themselves to make sound even MORE russian
go back
t. basement dweller
Never really thought about it. At some point someone probably thought it would sound cool with fireworks and it just became a meme. I doubt most Americans even know the lyrics are Russian.
based burgerbros ignoring reality
They also strictly teach that the biggest factor to Napoleon losing the war was because of the Russian Winter. Hilarious. I will always remember being 15 sitting In the public high school history class with a bunch of idiots who couldn't care less and a roastie new teacher who graded me wrong for answering that Russia beat France, not the weather.
For fucks sake Napoleon lost more troops In his summer ADVANCE than in his winter retreat. And winter didn't cut down Nay and all of the poor men fording rivers while under Cossack supply raids or Kutozov artillery fire. My point is, Americans are fucking retarded dude.
