Every time it gets brought up here, a lot of people say they were in GATEway. It's very hard to find non wishy washy data on base programs, ["search query GATE gifted and talented"], but consistent things that I went through that were brought up were beep/pitch tests with headphones and weird card games with symbols on them that were unique, and clinics usually attatched to a hospital. I joked as a kid that the memory tests and beep tests were actually prescience/prediction tests, but, if there are many of is here, why? League of Extraordinary Underachievers? Or does it have something to do with unfiltered pattern recognition?

Good question OP. Up here in leafland, we have standardized testing for this stuff. The test I was given was kinda weird though. It was just a single piece of paper with Castreau's face covering the entire thing. The question asked "Please circle any non-faggots in this picture". I basically just stared at it for a couple minutes and then handed it right back unmarked.

I went through something similar but it was called Target or something like that. This was late 80s early 90s in Tuscaloosa Alabama. We also had after school thing where we were shuttled to a different facility with black out curtains on the windows and put in front of either early macs or commodores. My memory is really fuzzy on which system. Probably Apples with the floppy disks. The more I try to reflect back to that time period, the more shrouded in mystery it becomes. What the fuck were they doing? They must have been experimenting on us.

Yeah I remember having to do these in the 4th grade. Truthfully I think the whole program is flawed. Everyone told me I would be successful even though I never worked hard and was fat. By contrast the kids I thought of as being dumb as a kid are some of the most successful.

We were sent to a camp, tonnes of problem solving and memory tests.
One of the memory tests I remember quite clearly is that we were shown a photo on a projector for five seconds. Then we had another test involving sound (about 15 minutes long) then we were all given a printout of that photo and asked to write five differences between it and the one that had been shown on the projector.
There was another test that involved us being taken into a room where we were presented with written instructions, we then had to direct a guy how to assemble a kit set chair using the instructions. We had to sit on our hands two meters away so we could not give visual indictors in our instructions, it all had to be oral.
There was another test we had where we were given a set of pattern recognition images (like Mensa has for IQ tests) and asked to rank the three potential answers for each image in order of likelihood of being the correct choice.

the GATE program was about half the top stream and some select individuals from the mid stream for years 9 and 10 (I think that's 8th and 9th grade in North America)
They were the gifted students, plus some others.
