Nobody thinks china is going to attack Taiwan. They've stated multiple times at worst they're ready to go to war over it if America keeps pushing its influence their by buying media and trying to house offensive missiles that will threaten china.
China is Taiwan's largest trade partner and china relies on Taiwan to avoid trade tarrifs by using them as a middle man for some of their factories.
All china cares about involving Taiwan is that America doesn't gain complete control over it through their glowies and usual sneaky means and completely blocks off china from the sea and has missiles there that could threaten the mainland.
They've always stated it's only a matter of time before Taiwan asks to be part of china again once china increases its own economy to such a point that it massively benefits Taiwan to do so (around 2040 or so). In the meantime all they care about is stopping America from completely wrecking it and using it as a meatshield.

I'm not rooting for the bugs but anyone who says they cant land massive numbers of troops on the island is a retard. What does china have in massive abundance? Cargo vessels, how many bug troops can you pack onto a container ship? 20k? more? whats stopping them from beaching 50 fully loaded container ships and creating a beach head? 100 bought men already on the island could simultaneously knock out power and telcoms with ease and then they can para drop thousands of highly trained commandos in strategic positions while their fodder bugs flow off the beached ships and secure the area.
