No they weren't. Ukraine refused to comply with Minsk 2 and any diplomatic talk. Zelensky even talked about requesting nuclear weapons against Russia the week before the invasion.

If anyone finds Russia's incompetence in Ukraine hilarious and fascinating, they are going to be in for a real treat if China tries to invade Taiwan.
China is even more backward and retarded than Russia with similar levels of corruption. They need to transport a large amount of soldiers and equipment by sea with a shitty navy, defended by a shitty air force. Taiwan, on the other hand, is a modern country whose entire defence strategy has always been focused on stopping a Chinese invasion.
The fact that Chinese financial institutions are cutting off ties with Russia to avoid the slight risk of US sanctions should tell you a lot about how destructive US sanctions would be for China.
Japan also plans to defend Taiwan even if the US doesn't.
If China tries, it could easily be the downfall of the communist party

China has 1,634 planes that makes it Eurasia's largest airforce with plenty of modern planes like J-15s, J-20s and J-35s. The RuAF in comparison is nothing. And supplying Taiwan would be an even more difficult job as it's an island. The Chinese can just block the island from all sides and starve it.
