Sweden's owned them for centuries. It's in their nature. In all seriousness this is probably being done out of 'solidarity' of some kind. The issue here though is that Sweden probably doesn't have to worry about invasion, Finland does now. When the war wraps up in Ukraine they'll tell Sweden better luck next time and join NATO

The only reason why they pull sweden into the NATO is to make it easier for finland to join. The US has no benefits from sweden joining. They don't get any closer to russia with it. And sweden was very useful as a non-NATO puppet to support someone who you can't directly support because of an other NATO member (i.e. Kurds).
