Their consistency is the key to their success, and part of that is locally sourcing their products. Russia had 100+ McDonald's restaurants going into the year and they are very profitable and successful. A Siberian franchiser purchased the Russian McDonald's business and today marks the first opening of many stores under a new scheme, which is still being finalized.
It's impressive to be able to turn around such a massive operation on this scale - the company was sold, rebranded, and reopened in a month. Now the menu is changing and becoming more Russian. They like burgers and fries, too, but it's not "copying" American culture any longer, now Russia is doing things its own way. That is the symbolic victory, and you can't take it from them.
