The idea of skin colour classification/superiority wasn't even a thing during antiquity or even the middle ages. Anyone with eyes can see that Mediterraneans aren't "white", they are clearly olive skinned and don't fit the literal definition of pasty paleness. Hell, anyone with a skin tone that isn't pale can't be "white", doesn't matter if they're European. Going by this twisted logic, East Asians could be considered "white" because many of them are pale.
What makes it even more amusing is that Anglos, being the hypocritical scum that they are, abandoned their owns ideas of whiteness when they decided to classify Mediterraneans and even the fucking Irish as non white during the 19th century, only to later apply the term back to those groups during the 30s, when demographics in the US began to shift. If you know the history of the term, why dont you apply the same reasoning to ask why in current year there is an attack on "whites"? Everywhere you go in the world whether India, China, South America, the native population understands very clearly what you mean by "white". I feel you are being very disingenuous by telling half of the story and ignoring how the term "white" has evolved since the 19th century. It is extremely clear its usage around the world refers to European traits which are obviously very different from African or Asiatic traits. If you claim it was an 18th century construct why dont you address how its usage has shifted since then? Im hispanic and not considered white but its very fucking clear to us what is meant when you hear the terms "white" "asian" or "black" or "mestizo", it all refers to European gene admixture and its dominant traits such as fair skin, cranial structure (specifically as shown by eyes i.e asian slant) hair and eye colour and how it results in a very clear phenotype. Pic related would never be called asian or black and its fucking obvious what is meant by "white" even if her hair was dark black and not red.
