Well, people here always be sayin' - non-binary, that's not a real thing!

Well, it is. Some gay men are flamers, some lesbians are stone butch. When you act fem as a man - you are othered, treated differently. Much of our socialization is gendered and the sexes are somewhat segregated.

Non binary is very much a real thing for fem gay men and butch lesbians because your behavior means you aren't really treated like most other men or women are - you sorta become a third category as a hybrid.
