How can anyone take DC seriously when there's homeless people and drug needles on just about every street downtown?
If I were a rich white congressmen, I wouldn't want to walk by homeless people, smell urine in the subways, step on syringes and crack pipes, and hear gunshots daily. A country that can't feed or house its people is Third World.

DC literally has the highest crime rate in the US. And DC was created by an act of Congress and is basically under the control of Congress. Why would Congress want to live in such a third world state of crime and homelessness? I thought rich people used their money to live in nice areas with low crime.

They don’t live in DC, other than in a couple wealthy areas in the Northwest that aren’t close to the subway. They’re mostly in wealthy Maryland and Virginia suburbs
Addiction in DC, like homelessness, is also twice the rate of the national average. If Congress can't manage a district they control and live in, why would any American be stupid enough to think they'd make any place in America better than DC?
