There were a lot of series from the 80s-early 00s that were solid artistic works. But these typically involved grand adventures with high stakes or giant space battles. Most anime now just seems like friend simulator drivel for lonely incels. They know their market, I guess. Personally, I don't want to watch a bunch of Japanese high schoolers do high school things, and I definitely don't want to watch a bunch of little girls do little girl things.

Good anime ends. The long runners like One Piece and Dragonball Z/Super make money but I can't really say they're good exactly for the reason you say. It gets repetitive and boring. Even growing up with DBZ, I still prefer the original Dragonball as it's much closer to the inspiration behind it, Journey to the West.
