Any users here that served in their nations’ militaries? I know plenty of Finns that post here were conscripts. Plenty of US vets too. Russia has conscription but I never recalled a Russian ever posting about military service on this website.

Have extended family who served on peace keeping missions but never served myself. Our military is a shitshow since we are a neutral country. The funding is shit but the actual best of the best are world class since there are so few of them but they get the best most cutting edge gear (Irish ranger wing). I was planning to join up with the tech wing to do intelligence and infrastructure (.ie all of the tech shit, encryption etc.) but the pay was shit and I could just join the reserves without needing to be deployed in a shithole while earning private sector money

After the free state of Ireland was enacted, the IRA back in the 30's was dissolved. The IRA you are probably thinking of is a paramilitary force that shares zero connection with the official Irish military. Our military is called Óglaigh na hÉireann or in English or "Soldiers of Ireland" officially but we just call them "The Irish Army" for simplicity
