Why is it illegal to possess hard drugs like heroine or meth for personal use? Laws generally are made to protect the public, but I don't see how man smoking meth in his house should be illegal.
I think public intoxication, selling drugs, and possessing drugs with the intention to sell should be illegal, but someone shouldn't have to spend time in jail for the police finding a crack pipe in their car. Who is harmed or affected by a man driving home with a crack pipe in his car?
Most drugs should be legal for recreational use.

If you want to fix Mexico, you have to end the war on drugs (specifically in the US). If drugs are provided legally, safely (relatively speaking), and reliably by the government or a company, the cartels would be out of business. The war on drugs has turned Mexico into a war-torn shithole - more drug laws certainly won't fix it.

Legalization does not lead to more use. What's more is it becomes safer for everybody involved. Drugs are never going away. They are integral to the human experience and are craved by hundreds of millions. Eliminate the black market, regulate all substances for purity and contams, sell in measured doses with information packets in every bag or vial or whatever sold that explains how the drug works, what not to do, harm reduction and safety protocols and emergency number for trained professions blah blah blah. It's a very simple thing that would make drugs much less harmful to society and individuals.
